Sometimes the best movie nights are the completely unplanned ones. Recently, I settled onto the sofa with a bowl of pasta and watched The Holdovers. Set at a New England boarding school during Christmas, it follows a grumpy teacher, a student who has nowhere to go for the holidays, and the school cook who ends up spending the break with them.
It’s funny, a little sad, beautifully acted, and surprisingly comforting. I especially loved how the story takes its time. There’s no need for constant drama when three complicated people are simply forced to spend time together.
It reminded me that some of the best stories are really about ordinary people, unexpected friendships, and the strange little moments that change us.

I’ve picked this beautiful dress from a boutique. Do let me know if you want to buy this. It is available in various colors as well. I can share photographs with you. I wore this to a function last week at the Asansol Club.
Do you have authors whose books you automatically pick up?
I recently read The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, and it stayed with me long after I finished it. The story explores all the different lives we might have lived if we’d made different choices, and it made me think about how easily we can get caught up in wondering about the “what ifs” of life.
I love books that entertain you but also make you pause for a moment and look at your own life differently. Lately, I’ve been alternating between fiction and books about personal growth and creativity.
I’ve also realized that reading doesn’t have to mean finishing a book in three days. Sometimes ten quiet pages before bed are enough.

One thing I’m constantly thinking about is what to eat. I’m lucky to have a cook who takes care of the actual cooking, but I’m usually the one deciding what should be on the menu.
I like keeping our everyday meals simple, wholesome and varied. Some of the things that have been making regular appearances lately are chicken curry with rice, fish with dal and vegetables, egg curry with roti, chicken pasta, and the occasional biryani when we’re in the mood for something a little more indulgent.
I’ll usually tell my cook what I’m craving or give her an idea of what I want for lunch and dinner, and she takes it from there.
I also like having a few dependable meals that we can rotate through without making food feel repetitive. Sometimes it’s a comforting home-cooked curry, sometimes a simple fish preparation, and sometimes just eggs and toast on a particularly busy day.
What about you?
What have you been watching, reading, wearing, cooking or enjoying lately?
